Long ago, a man named Charles Champagne founded Champagne Chariot Vending Services. At some point in the past, Smokey and Rosie both worked for the company at the same time, which led to their friendship. Smokey took over Champagne Chariot Vending Services from Charles Champagne after his retirement or death. He became so successful that the company was able to rent out a warehouse and a fleet of trucks to operate their business. Smokey said that he did this to please his wife, Mavis. This ironically ended up straining their marriage as Smokey got too busy with work and couldn't even take Mavis out to a nice dinner like he had promised, which culminated in Mavis having affairs behind Smokey's back, something he has been aware of for years (he kept giving her the benefit of the doubt as long as it made her happy). Smokey's broken promises to Mavis added onto his ongoing life frustrations that began after he sold Larry, his albino son, to the circus.

When Frank was desperate to find a new job, Rosie gave him a business card for the company, and Frank eventually got back up on his feet. In Season 4 Smokey had a speech in every employee should own.
