Ginny Throater (née Deichpfister) is a friend of Sue's who she does not like. She is voiced by Mo Collins.

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about Ginny’s past other than at some point she met and got married to Greg Throater and had two sons, Greg Jr and Connor. At some point before her introduction in the series, Ginny and Greg separate.

Season 1[]

Ginny is first seen in the episode "The Trough", were she runs into Sue who is shopping with Maureen, and Ginny spots her after Sue unsuccessfully tries to avoid her. Ginny starts talking to Sue about her marital troubles, while Sue sends Maureen to the fountain with pennies.

Ginny had continued venting her frustrations with her husband to Sue for hours, revealing to Sue that she had to spend Valentine’s Day looking for Greg around town, and telling her that they hadn’t had sex facing each other in years.

As she continues, she says that it’s difficult to please Greg, stating that she did everything he asked such as cutting her hair short, and putting on aftershave, but he still wasn’t attracted to her. When Sue tells Ginny that she needs to stop because the mall is closing and she needs to find Maureen and go home and make dinner, Ginny becomes offended and sarcastically apologizes to Sue that her life falling apart is such an inconvenience.

When Ginny gets up to leave, Sue stops her, and Ginny comments that she doesn’t know why she talks to Sue. She figures that Sue couldn’t understand how she feels with her “perfect life and her beautiful kids“. Sue snaps and tells Ginny that her life isn’t perfect, that outside of being a wife and mother she has nothing, and she sells plastic that she cries into, even admitting that she wished she had never got married. Ginny ignores what Sue says, and asks her if she never stops thinking about herself before walking away.

Season 2[]

Ginny isn’t seen again until the episode “Heavy Sledding”. Ginny approaches Frank and Sue, and gives Frank a hug and asks how the job hunting was going since Frank lost his job before Christmas. Frank doesn’t answer, and just murmurs that he should’ve died in Korea before walking away.

Ginny doesn’t take that personally, and tells Sue that her relationship with her husband is much better.

In "Fight Night", Ginny and Greg are out shopping for pants when they run into Frank. Frank tells them it’s his anniversary and he needs to buy Sue a gift. Ginny congratulates him, saying that she’s so happy that Frank and Sue have what she and Greg have, saying that it’s important for couples to do things together.

Ginny tells Frank that they were pants shopping, saying that Greg has to look for pants every Thursday at the exact same store.

As Greg goes into the changing room, Ginny tells Frank that it’s important to sometimes show love in small ways and other times show love in big and expensive ways.

When Frank figures that he’s going to buy Sue jewelry, he thanks them and walks away.

By the end of "F is for Fixing It", Ginny and Greg end up going to a couples counseling retreat, along with Frank and Sue. In "Pray Away", while on the way to the retreat, Greg tells Father Pat where the nearest rest stop is while he’s looking for a bathroom. Ginny expresses her pride in Greg’s knowledge.

After they get to the retreat, Ginny tells the other two couples; Frank and Sue and Jan and Clark, that they’re taking a brave step  to try to fix their marriage. Ginny goes on to say that with Father Pat’s help, their marriage was saved.

She tells the group a small anecdote about how Greg told her "Ginny I love you but I'm gay…ning too much weight from your cooking". She said that although she was hurt, she accepted it, and accepted Greg, and that every night Greg goes out and finds his own dinner, and he comes home happy.

During a later exercise, the couples are asked to imitate each other, Ginny imitates Greg and portrays him as a big tough guy who loves her. When Greg imitates Ginny, he describes her as a beautiful and trusting person, and a wonderful mother who deserves a real marriage and not a “cheap hollow imitation”. When Greg starts crying, Ginny mistakes it for tears of joy.

As the sessions continue, Ginny and Greg and Jan and Clark listen as Sue and Frank start arguing. When they’re done, Greg unabashedly proclaims that he likes dick. When Ginny asks what he means, Greg says he’s gay. Ginny, in denial, says that Greg isn’t gay and she was going to go outside to look at constellations, and Greg has five minutes to stop playing his “silly game“. When Greg asks Ginny to divorce him, she says no.

Season 3[]

By season three, Ginny and Greg have ultimately divorced. In “Are You Ready for the Summer” at the Memorial Day Parade, Ginny was trying to pick up men when she’s approached by Sue who is trying to promote her new product, the carrot crisper. Ginny tells Sue that all she’s interested in was trying to find a man who wasn’t grossed out by her.

A few days later in "The Stinger", Ginny is invited over to the Murphy house along with Evelyn, Nguyen Nguyen, and Marie, to watch Sue and Vivian present her new invention, the forkoontula. Initially, Ginny and the others are reluctant to take one, but reconsider when Sue becomes more menacing.

In “Battle of the Sexes”, Ginny is back at the Murphy house giving Sue honest feedback on her forkoontula along with Nguyen Nguyen, Marie, Nana Rose, and Evelyn.

Ginny says that the forkoontula was complicated, frustrating to use, and the handle looks like the knife.

Later, Ginny watches a battle of the sexes sports game with the Murphy Family and the rest of the neighbors.

In "Punch Drunk", Ginny attends a neighborhood party and ends up playing baseball on the women’s team, and Ginny spends most of the time getting drunk and hitting on the men. When Ginny’s up to bat, she gets hit in the face by Chet’s pitch, and the game ends. By the end of the night, Ginny and Otto Holtenwasser end up having sex.

In "Summer Vacation" and "It’s In His Blood", Ginny continues her sexual relationship with Otto, much to his displeasure.

At the beginning of "Frank the Father", Ginny is standing outside on the street with her other neighbors talking about how Nguyen Nguyen poisoned her husband. She brags about how when the police came, her an Otto were in bed together. Ginny and the others stand around murmuring, as Frank and Sue bring Kevin back home from the police station. Frank tells the group that if they have anything to say to him say it to his face, and Ginny and the rest of the neighbors start chattering incoherently over each other before Frank tells them to go away and they all leave.

In "Bill Murphy’s Night Off", Ginny and the other neighbors that are outside as the Murphy family look for Bill who had run away.

When Vic offers to take Babe up in his helicopter to look for Bill, he invites Otto. Otto initially says no because he’s afraid of flying, and Ginny fawns over him saying that he should stay with her. However, she’s visibly disappointed when Otto changes his mind.
